Steps for Vehicle Ownership Transfer Online
- Open Parivahan and select your State/UT.
- Go to Online Services → Vehicle Related Services.
- Choose Transfer of Ownership (or ownership-related services).
- Enter your vehicle details (registration number, chassis details if required).
- Fill the transfer form and upload required documents.
- Pay the applicable fees and submit the request.
- Book an appointment (if required) and visit the RTO for verification.
- After approval, ownership details are updated in the RC record.
Documents & Forms: Form 29 (Notice of transfer), Form 30 (Application for transfer), valid insurance, PUC, address proof (as required), sale proof/delivery note (if applicable). Fees depend on the state and vehicle type.
Vehicle Ownership Transfer Timeline (Expected): In most cases, vehicle ownership transfer is updated within 7 to 30 working days, depending on your RTO workload, document verification, and whether both parties have completed the required steps.
What Can Delay Ownership Transfer?
Pending road tax or unpaid challans; insurance not updated or expired; hypothecation (loan) still active (Form 35 required); incorrect chassis/engine details; missing signature or incomplete Form 29/30; seller/buyer verification pending at the RTO. Tip: Always track your vehicle ownership transfer status on Vahan after submission.
Common Issues & Troubleshooting (Parivahan Sewa)
RC Download / RC Details Not Showing
Recheck vehicle number format, try chassis number, or wait 24–72 hours for record update. You can also use DigiLocker or mParivahan.
Driving Licence Not Found
Ensure DOB matches records, try application number instead of DL number, and recheck after approval sync.
Payment Failed (DL / RC / Challan)
Wait 30–60 minutes, check payment status again, and retry using a different method if needed.
Captcha Not Loading / Portal Not Working
Clear cache, use incognito mode, switch browser, or try again during non-peak hours.
